Evaluating the Complex Patient with Organix Testing(mp3)

Details

Four cases are discussed:

Autistic child

  • Low B vitamins, poor detoxification and increased oxidative stress, biotin deficiency from dysbiotic gut; many high organic acid markers.
  • Treat most profound organic acid elevation first, treat GI problems, alter diet and supplement with B vitamins.

Child with mitochondrial myopathy

  • Failure to thrive, GI-reflux. many high organic acid markers.
  • Oxidative markers are fine, sulfate is low, limiting glutathione production; dysbiosis markers are elevated.
  • Treatments included carnitine, creatinine, B vitamins, CoQ10, alpha lipoic acid, Vitamin E.
  • Follow-up indicated significant improvement in mitochondrial and microbial markers along with improvement in growth and development.

Depression in 63-year-old woman

  • Drinks alcohol, craves sugar, depression in family; taking prozac, vitamins D,C,E; calcium/magnesium, fish oil, CoQ10
  • Testing showed that patient could reduce the CoQ10 level; has low catecholamine status, needs B6; tyrosine and tryptophan low.
  • Treatment with 5HTP, tyrosine; reduce Prozac.
  • Depression improved significantly; try titrating off Prozac as tolerated.

Professional athlete

  • Wants to improve wellness and optimize performance
  • Key energy-producing nutrients were supplemented: carnitine, CoQ10, B6, and biotin
